Pitch: Question 9

For my digipak i will be producing a 4 panel one and it will contain a front and back cover and also a inside cover which have one image of the artist and another image or patten which will go with the rest of the images.
On the front of my digipak i will have a close up of the artist face to show her confidence and on the back cover maybe a low angle shot to show her innocence's which will also include the artist other songs as well. I am considering doing the digipak in black and white as our video might be in black and white also, but i may re think this idea because colour stands out and i want my digipack to stand out to the target audience. In my advertisement it will include the front cover of the digipak to show the end product and also bold colourful writing and which will have information of where our video can be seen e.g YouTube. And social networks in which we will be advertising our video on.

our animatic for our video

Our pitch

My Answer of three questions

I plan to use the digital technology in the production of our three products . I plan for my package to help promote our artist and create a produced out come. The equipment and setting will help relate to that as the camera will clearly do our recording for the footage of our video. Finally after the video is complete I plan to blog it and use video to publicize the video. Possible receive feed back on the video, and get a positive response.

The three image which I have used re all different ways in which our video could be advertised.

During As i had learned a lot in sense of how to use final cut and sound track pro. Since being in a2 i have learned how to further my knowledge by cutting clips and adding them to photos and making a final product where they all flow at the same time. i have become more understanding and i have learned improvements on how to use our ideas all together and combine them into one great idea. for the best outcome of our video

A Few photos which we used to make our anamatic

These are just a few examples f the shots in which we choose to enhance in our finally music video.

Pixe Lotts Lyrics

"Use Somebody"

Oh whooaa oh oww [2x]

I've been roaming around
Always looking down at all I see
Painted faces fill the places I can't reach
You know that I could use somebody yeah
You know that I could use somebody yeah

Someone like you and all you know and how you speak
Countless lovers undercover of the street
You know that I could use somebody yeah
You know that I could use somebody yeah

Someone like you whoaa ow whoaa ow [2x]

Off in the night while you live it up
I'm off to sleep
Waging wars to shake the poet and the beat

I hope it's gonna make you notice yeaah
I hope it's gonna make you notice yeah

Someone like me ohh whooaa oh
Someone like me oooh whoaaa whoow

I'm ready now [repeat]

Someone like you
You know that I could use somebody yeeaaah
You know that I could use somebody yeaeah
whooa oh

I've been roaming around up
Looking down at all I see

Vladimir Propp

Vladimir Propp (1895 - 1970) was a  folklorist best known for Morphology of the Folktale, a structuralist analysis and fundamental work on the theory of narrative.
His Morphology of the Folk Tale was published in Russian in 1928. Although it represented a breakthrough in both folkloristics and morphology and influenced Claude Lévi-Strauss and Roland Barthes, it was generally unnoticed in the West until it was translated in the 1950s. His character types are used in media education and can be applied to almost any film or television series.

Narrative Structure

Vladimir Propp extended the Russian Formalist approach to the study of narrative structure. In the Formalist approach, sentence structures were broken down into analyzable elements, or morphemes, and Propp used this method by analogy to analyze Russian fairy tales. By breaking down a large number of Russian folk tales into their smallest narrative units, or narratemes, Propp was able to arrive at a typology of narrative structures. By analyzing character and action types, Propp concluded that there were 31 generic narratemes in the Russian folk tale. While not all were present, he found that all the tales he had analyzed displayed the functions in unvarying sequence.

Functions

After the initial situation is depicted, the tale takes the following sequence of 31 functions:[3]
  1. A member of a family leaves home (the hero is introduced);
  2. An interdiction is addressed to the hero ('don't go there', 'don't do this');
  3. The interdiction is violated (villain enters the tale);
  4. The villain makes an attempt at reconnaissance (either villain tries to find the children/jewels etc; or intended victim questions the villain);
  5. The villain gains information about the victim;
  6. The villain attempts to deceive the victim to take possession of victim or victim's belongings (trickery; villain disguised, tries to win confidence of victim);
  7. Victim taken in by deception, unwittingly helping the enemy;
  8. Villain causes harm/injury to family member (by abduction, theft of magical agent, spoiling crops, plunders in other forms, causes a disappearance, expels someone, casts spell on someone, substitutes child etc, comits murder, imprisons/detains someone, threatens forced marriage, provides nightly torments); Alternatively, a member of family lacks something or desires something (magical potion etc);
  9. Misfortune or lack is made known, (hero is dispatched, hears call for help etc/ alternative is that victimized hero is sent away, freed from imprisonment);
  10. Seeker agrees to, or decides upon counter-action;
  11. Hero leaves home;
  12. Hero is tested, interrogated, attacked etc, preparing the way for his/her receiving magical agent or helper (donor);
  13. Hero reacts to actions of future donor (withstands/fails the test, frees captive, reconciles disputants, performs service, uses adversary's powers against him);
  14. Hero acquires use of a magical agent (directly transferred, located, purchased, prepared, spontaneously appears, eaten/drunk, help offered by other characters);
  15. Hero is transferred, delivered or led to whereabouts of an object of the search;
  16. Hero and villain join in direct combat;
  17. Hero is branded (wounded/marked, receives ring or scarf);
  18. Villain is defeated (killed in combat, defeated in contest, killed while asleep, banished);
  19. Initial misfortune or lack is resolved (object of search distributed, spell broken, slain person revivied, captive freed);
  20. Hero returns;
  21. Hero is pursued (pursuer tries to kill, eat, undermine the hero);
  22. Hero is rescued from pursuit (obstacles delay pursuer, hero hides or is hidden, hero transforms unrecognisably, hero saved from attempt on his/her life);
  23. Hero unrecognized, arrives home or in another country;
  24. False hero presents unfounded claims;
  25. Difficult task proposed to the hero (trial by ordeal, riddles, test of strength/endurance, other tasks);
  26. Task is resolved;
  27. Hero is recognized (by mark, brand, or thing given to him/her);
  28. False hero or villain is exposed;
  29. Hero is given a new appearance (is made whole, handsome, new garments etc);
  30. Villain is punished;
  31. Hero marries and ascends the throne (is rewarded/promoted)

Reflection Of Lip Synch Tutorial

These two pictures where taken during our lip synch tutorial task. The task was to create a video to a given song (my group's song was 'Ain't no stopping us now' by McFadden and Whitehead). We had to make sure that whilst shooting the video we were singing along to the song so that when it was time to edit it we would be able to put the backing track behind it to create the whole lip synch idea.

We used final cut  pro to edit our final video. My group however had a little problem because we forgot to shoot a scene all the way through to make the editing easier. But we eventually manager to make do with what we had had and create a video. We used markers on the soundtrack's timeline on a particular beat and lined it up with the same point as the lip synching so that it was in time with the music.

The photos above are just a few that we took whilst doing the project. The first is of Bridie and Marilyn who were reviewing a clip we had shot previously. The second picture is the actual brief for the project itself which included everything we needed to do and some useful tips on how to get the best results for what we were doing.

Artist Research

Pixie Lott also know as Victoria Louise Lott is a 19 year old singer-songwriter, dancer and actress. She was signed to Mercury Records in the UK and Interscope Records in the US both in 2009, her first video 'Mumma Do' came out in 2009 and was  released to Myspace and gained 3 million views on Youtube.
She also has a range of geners such as Pop, R&B, Soul, Electric Pop and Dance Pop.

Moon Board

This is our moon board that we made in lesson. We decided to add a lot of colour and make it really girly.The genre we chose to talk about was pop and we added three pop singers to feature on our moon board, Adele, Pixie Lott and Alexandra Burke. These three artists we chose to narrow down our choices to what song we would replicate. Also on the moon board we added a fashion section and we discussed that pop if rather colourful and very modern style clothing and also the make up is very fancy and detailed. The target audience for our songs are teen girls who admire the artist and want to be like them and also can relate to there songs.

Final Song Choice

The song we have chosen is Pixie Lotts Acoustic version to Kings of Leons song 'use somebody'. We chose this song because we felt that because she has no video to this song we could create our own version with a story line. We are gonna keep it simple and maybe us as a group all appear in the video and we are gonna keep it with the black and white colour scheme as we are going to make it more focused on the song and the meaning.

review on previous students work

Cassie, Lauren, Patrice & Vicki from 283goswell on Vimeo.

This video is a Pixie Lott song.
The students created a story line of a girl trying to get over her boyfriend, which is a typical story line in many ways. The audience for this video is teens majority girls and the genre is pop, there are a variety of good shots and angles in this video and there is a colour change. What put me off the video was the girls performance because she seemed un enthusiastic which drew most of the attention away from the video.

vlaimir propp

Vladimir Propp was born in 1928 and studied narrative structure, breaking down Russian Fairy Tales and Russian Folk Tales. He studied that a tale follows a sequence of 31 structures. The first 10 are....

  1. Absentation

  2. Interdiction

  3. Violation of Interdiction

  4. Reconnaissance

  5. Delivery

  6. Trickery

  7. Complicity

  8. Vallainy or Lack

  9. Mediation

  10. Begining Counter Action

In the Video'yo side of the bed' by Trey Songs function 20 is used when the women returns home from war to visit her family. Its unusual for a women to be the hero in a music video especially coming back from war and having to leave. She is a hero because she is fighting for her country, something over 100 years ago women wernt allowed to do, be apart of the army.

    9.Final song choice

    After stressing our minds and deciding what video we want to do we have finally decided to do
    Pixie Lott-" Use somebody" (Acoustic).

    http://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=y5o8L-Or0O4

    As this song just has a basic video of her singing it as it being recorded we did not feel it had a lot to live up to like we had to spend a lot of money in order to get a good video or audience.
    However we like the fact that this video has such simplicity to it. the fact that it is in black and white and it is just her singing alone, gives more emphasise and advantage to the meaning and lyrics of the song. this makes this song stand out to me personally more than other songs because there is little to the video but more. we decided that in a way we wanted to do a replicate of the video as it was so simple but instead of one leas we would have three , so the video would contain all three of us, it would be a group video. the fact that the video was in black and white we liked, but not sure whether we will intend to use the same effects is a different story. furthermore our video will have some necessities which pixie Lott's video has for example the shots of the microphone and her , however we will have individuals shots of us and the microphone and then other will all of us. but it will also be different as it will have our own personal touch and sense of style to it.

    7.Reveiw Of a Students Work

    I Watched A Video from a previous students work and i thought the audience was teenagers and young adults and the genre was funky. i thought the narrative of the music video was the fact that they want to have fun and just simply party hard. the music video was very good and also had a variation of shots and scene in it which made it interesting. there were girls in the video around the lead singer which made him look as if he had status as they danced around him and in a way looked like sex objects. as i thought they were seen to catch the viewers eye. there was good amplification and editing throughout the video that thought made it work well and come together properly in order for it to be a hit. finally it proved the point that young people just want to have fun . it ended well on the fact that it was just a dream. now i think this idea was smart because it could have reflected the fact that the young boy is living his life and his dream is actually what he hopes to be doing, enjoying his age and living it up.

    Secondly i watched another video and it was a complete contrast from the first video i watched this was because it was all about girls they were the main singers and the kind of music was pop. the video in a sense was kind of a pop video which was a comedy i guess. the narrative i feel was for the viewers not to worry that everything will be okay, well that's what they said in their lyrics, however the video does not match the song as they were parading up and down the street and one of the girls tried to sell her body. finally the camera work was good ads there were extreme close ups and the angles were good and the scenery was well lit.

    6.Vladmir Propp

    Vladimir Propp
    Vladimir Propp in 1928.
    Born17 April 1895
    DiedAugust 22, 1970 (aged 75)
    OccupationLiterary critic, scholar
    NationalityRussian
    SubjectsFolk tales, structuralism

    Vladimir Yakovlevich Propp (Russian:  29 April [O.S. 17 April] 1895 — 22 August 1970) was a Russian and Soviet formalist .

    Research says that vladimir Propp was a russian and soviet formalist scholar who analysed basic plot compoments of Russian " Folk Tales " to identify their simplest irreducible narrative elements. He extended his formalist approach by studing the narrative structure.The Formalist approach structures were broken down into analyzable elements by breaking down a large number of Russian folk tales into their smallest narrative units. He was a Russian critic who examined 100s of examples of folk tales to see if they shared. any structures. His book on this 'Morphology of the Folk Tale' was first published in 1928) Propp looked at 100s of folk tales and identified 8 character roles and 31 narrative functions.
    His eight characters were
    1. The villain(s)
    2. The hero
    3. The donor - who provides an object with some magic property.
    4. The helper who aids the hero.
    5. The princess (the sought for person) - reward for the hero and object of the
    villain's schemes.
    6. Her father - who rewards the hero.
    7. The dispatcher - who sends the hero on his way.
    8. The false hero

    After the initial situation is depicted the story normally follows in one of the following 31 ways ( i shall not list all)

    -ABSENTATION: A member of a family leaves the security of the home environment. This may be the hero or some other member of the family that the hero will later need to rescue. This division of the cohesive family injects initial tension into the storyline. The hero may also be introduced here, often being shown as an -ordinary person.
    -INTERDICTION: An interdiction is addressed to the hero ('don't go there', 'don't do this'). The hero is warned against some action (given an 'interdiction').
    -VIOLATION of INTERDICTION. The interdiction is violated (villain enters the tale). This generally proves to be a bad move and the villain enters the story, although not necessarily confronting the hero. Perhaps they are just a lurking presence or perhaps they attack the family whilst the hero is away.
    -RECONNAISSANCE: The villain makes an attempt at reconnaissance (either villain tries to find the children/jewels etc.; or intended victim questions the villain). The villain (often in disguise) makes an active attempt at seeking information, for example searching for something valuable or trying to actively capture someone. They may speak with a member of the family who innocently divulges information. They may also seek to meet the hero, perhaps knowing already the hero is special in some way.

    5.Lip Synch Tutorial Reflection

    Photos During The lip Sync Tutorial

    These are a few photos which we took during our lip sync tutorial. we have a photos of the task we were told to do. Also a photo of me & Bridie sorting out what we in fact wanting to do with the song and how we wanted our video to look. which was taken by Dionne. Despite the fact that we only had a hour to make this video i feel that we did good however we picked up on some key tips and factors that we need to sort out when it comes to us making our final video.

    Lip Sync Analysis

    This was our final video after we had finished recording our scene for our lip sync tutorial. throughout this process i learnt how to
    •  create bass tracks and mark to the beat.
    • organise and arrange the videos in order to the lyrics of our selected song.
    • Sing to the song without my voice begin heard but at the same time making it look natural
    • Use my groups ideas and combine them together to make our final product.
    • Finally how to have fun singing to a very old song

    3.Examples and Analysis of videos. (Amplification,Disjuncture,Illustration)

    Amplification-The Video introduces new meanings that do not contradict the lyrics but add layers of meaning. I choose this video due to the fact it is kind of confusing she is talking about making the one she loves,"feel her love" however in the song she also uses other metaphors and forms of description which makes you wonder what she is talking about. for example" & on the high way of regret"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fnn9JlqqTE4
    Adele-Feel my Love

    Disjuncture-Where there is little connection between the lyric and video or where the video contradicts the lyric. The video i choose was Pussycat Dolls-When i Grow up,i choose this video because there is no clear connection between the video and the lyrics. There is no clear connection between them and the videos there talking about when they grow up however there is nothing in the video showing when they are growing up or nothing that relates the lyrics to the video.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0K46C82v9o&ob=av2e
    Pussycat Dollz-When I Grow up

    Illustration-The video Tells the story of the lyric. In the video she goes through where she grew up and her memories and she shows this in her video.she stands in the middle and she has screens around her showing where she grew up.which relate to lyrics which she is singing. This makes the video very emotive powerful
