final Question 4

Receiving feedback from my class was very influential. As it helped me decided what i would in fact change if i did it again. Mostly the comments where very positive. Some of the feedback we got was:
"Editing transitions were good"
"Black and white scenes worked well, and the story line was portrayed well "
"Lighting in The studio was good."
"The close up's emphasise the artists true emotion".
"Strong Narrative".

From my audience feedback , i learnt that one thing that appeals to you may not appeal to everyone else . Not everyone sees everything through the same way or in the same light.

To be honest if i had to change anything about my video i think i would probably add a lot more to it , but i do not wether this would change the simplicity of the narrative. I think the way we portrayed it now was really good. But there is always room for improvement. I would change certain lighting aspects and maybe spend more time on the video, and try and include all ideas because we did change our minds a lot. I would like to see if we had combined all our ideas together what i final product would be like.

Final Question 3

State of art equipment
During our project we were given state of the art equipment which helped us in order to create our project. We were given a Video camera, a still camera, a video drive and also memory cards which helped us in order to keep track of what we had made. it also allowed us to save our work.

Photo shop
when i made my digipak i used photo shop this helped me to edit my photo and change anything in it which i may of needed to , or wanted to. There could of been features which i wanted to add to it , which photo shop would have helped me to. Photo shop helped me towards my ancillary product as it also allowed me to add text to my image and turn it different colours.
Animatic Story Board

This is a plan for how we wanted our animatic storyboard to look like. The order which we wanted it in. I felt that planning this was really useful,as when we watched it back it helped us see if there were any changes which needed to be made. When we finished it came together looking like this.

This is what it looked like when it was finished.

Another Example

Quark

google
Quark express i found very easy to use when i was making my digipak. For the simple fact the layout was so straight forward. I could see everything on the screen, but it could not edit photo's the way photo shop did. But they are 2 Totally different projects but when they are both used to make a final product they are very useful.

Google was a website which i used, when researching items which i needed which inspired my ideas for my digipak. Google was really fast and reliable, when i completed blogging tasks.

Final cut pro

WOOOOOOW! Final cut pro was he newest piece of hardware which i used when i first started as media. But in A2 media my sense of knowledge developed a lot. Using final cut pro along during my project to create our video was extremely intense, stressful but very rewarding. i learnt how to add a bass track and edit a video and then put them together. I also learnt how to add effects to make certain parts of our video Interesting. I learnt how to turn certain parts of our video black and white . Final cut pro was extremely useful and interesting to use when making our video.

Blogger

Blogger was used for to post all the reseraching activities which i had done, and all the planning which i had to do in build up to making our video. I also used it to evaluate certain aspects which helped influence me which i was hoping to include in my video. It also helped as any choices which i would cosider my teachers could check and offer me advice on improving it.

finally youtube helped me search for video inspirations. Also ideas which i may have decided to use.

Evaluation: Question 3

Question 3:
How did you use your media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

While filming, editing and creating our videos and digipaks  i got to use many different forms of media technology to create our project such as:
  • Final cut pro
  • Quark
  • Photos hop
  • Blogger
  • Google/ YouTube
  • State of the art equipment
Final cut pro
Photo shop

Camera and Tripod

Blogger used for evaluation

Quark
Used for Research

Used for Video storage

Used for Research

  • This is the story board in which we had the idea of having pictures of couples. We changed this idea as the story line is used in many pop videos. So instead decided to do a story line of two friends and one of them dealing with the loss of the friend.

Final Cut Pro
Final cut pro i used to import the clips from our hard drive and place the on the time line after watching each clip and cutting the bits we need and don't need. After placing it on the timeline i went to the effects tool and converted the shots not in the studio from colour to black and white and due to some clips being too dark we had to brighten the shot using the contrast tool. Also other effects we used such as dissolved and cross fade through out the video we used to show each memory shared, which was in black and white and gives it that idea of that its the past.

Quark
Quark i used to arrange my digipak  and type up my song names and artist name and title. I imported my images from photo shop and from my hard drive. On quark i was able to create a border for the digipak and the circle where the CD will go.

Photo shop
Photo shop i used when imported the image i wanted to use for my front cover but using the magic tool i cut around the edges to cut away the background and replace it with a cream background. Also by looking through the clip arts i chose a flower with i used to be on the front cover also to create that feminine feel. I also used photo shop to create my advertisement. I used to paint bucket tool to colour my background pink and i imported the picture i wanted to use and used the text tool to type up the information that should be on an advert.

Blogger
Blogger i used for my evaluation of my work and planning. While using blogger i have evaluated my ancillary products and main product and planned them as well. Also on blogger i have uploaded many pictures to make it more interesting and videos of other students comments on my video.

Google and YouTube
Google and YouTube i have used for research for my ancillary product and main product. From YouTube i was able to download the track for the song we used "Pixie Lott Use Somebody". And also watch many other films to get ideas from and use in my main product. Google on the other hand i used to find out more about the pop genre and the artist Pixie Lott as well as researching ideas to use on my ancillary products.

State of the art equipment
Lastly we were able loan equipment from the media department such as a camera, tripod, lights, memory cards, a hard drive and a still camera. Using the camera we more simple because i have had previous experience using the camera before. Some of our shots are hand held others such as the studio shot was on the tripod. We however used the hand held shots for the memories to make it look like it is a home video. The still camera we used to take photos which two was added in the video.
The hard drive and memory card are very important because we used them to store all of our work on .

evaluation question 1 final post

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
when creating my media product i was influenced by many artists for example

Trey songs -One Love . The way in which this video started helped influence me and my groups ideas when we were deciding how we were going to make our video. The fact the fact that his story started with a title and a cover as if it was a book. Which helped capture its audiences attention. We thought this would be very affective as we also had a story in which we had to tell.

We found out that trying to frame the photo or making the front cover a book would in fact be too hard .Therefore we just got a shot of our artist and used it as our opening shot. This shows her writing the lyrics to the song, as she creates as the video continues.

We thought that this would be a good idea due to the fact we had changed the narrative of our video and based it on friendship. So we were going to have picture frames of stills which we included in our video to tell our story. We really did want to have a book as a effect in story telling but sadly couldn't so we stuck to our codes and conventions . Kept the video very simple and did not leave the boundaries which leave our codes and conventions of a video for example, the way we filmed in a studio and didn't film out on the street to make it look like a grime video.

Instead we decided to make our memories black and white to show we were looking back on the past on emphasis of what happened. we thought this would be a lot easier. However i thought maybe if we had used a frame it would have been better. An gave a more pictorial effect . Throughout the video we still stuck to the conventions of our genre. These conventions also occurred in the acoustic version of pixie Lott. Which we chose as our song. We decided to do it in a studio however only have close ups and shots of our artists singing. Instead of having drums and over instruments in the shot to make it look like a rock video. The clothing was kept simply just like pixie lott was dressed in hers and ther wasnt nothing to other the top to make it look all over the top and glamarous.

I don't actually think my advert is conventional because it is not a picture of me in the studio. however for future reference i think i would use a photo like that if i did it again. However the fact that the photo is plain and there isn't really much to it . I feel that it does fit as it is really plain and there isn't really much to it ,but there artist its self and i feel that says it all.
I decided to keep the colour theme running between my digipak and my advertisement. Red and black as you can see. There was a flower which i also used, as in the video there was a rose . Sadly i could not find a natural rose to replica this. Therefore i found my own and colour red it according to the theme which i found. It did not look natural however kept my theme going. I put a plain one in the back cover and inside to keep my theme consistent.
I did not really decorate my CD but made it red and just put the artists name and album name on it. I stuck to the necessity of keeping my album plain.

Finally I am happy that we did not go to the extent of trying to over complicate our idea with all the things which we wanted to involve in the video. For example trying to make a 3 screen windown as i felt maybe the audience would of not really followed what was happening in the video. The way we played our narrative they still found hard to understand . But did in the way we concluded and ended the video.

Final Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement).
There were no links which were made between the video and my ancillary texts. The ancillary texts and the video i feel had no connection despite the fact of them both containing a flower, just of different type. In the video there was a pattern kept of my artist wearing the grey jumper, the only time her clothes changed was when my artist threw a rose for her friend. I personally feel no conventions are broken however all kept and used in numerous ways. There is only a clear link between the advertisement and my digipak, but not between my digipak, advertisement and my video. Besides my artists picture and recognising her face i do not feel the design would notify them of it being the same artist between the video and digipak.

I think that my ancillary texts are successful and my audience maybe attracted to them, as they are very bold and bright. They both link very well together. I feel my targeted audience would be attracted to them however i feel the bold colours would also attract other audience types.
The Picture links and shows the connection between the artist , it allows it to become more recognisable when the audience can recognise the artist as the photo from the album cover on the advert is the same. The font between both of them is different though, sadly i did not keep them consistent therefore. For future reference i shall.

As you can see from the screen shot from the video there is no red in the video however the occurrence of black. The top which the artist wear. I did not realise however it is linked to the advertisement , which has the same colour linked to the digipak. (black).

Finally i conformed to the conventions by only sticking to certain aspect. For example I did not make my digipak or advertisement look as if it was rock , by splashing dark colours and guitars and instruments all over it. Trying to fit it to a conventions of a different genre.

Question 4

I feel that the audience reacted to my video very well. I was worried that people would not understand the concept of the video and what happens at the end but it was clear that they understood it because they said 'awww' afterwards.

Some comments were made about the lighting and consistency or our studio shots. People said that the lighting kept changing and that in some shots Marilyn was wearing headphones and in the next shot she wasn't. I would say that this we couldn't be helped because of the fact that after we watched the 1st shots of her with the headphones on we realised they were too dark so we added the light, then we had to use the dark shots because we needed more variety. Also we had a problem with varieties of shots in the studio and this was because the studio itself was only big enough for 1 person. We tried to film from different angles but because there was not enough room we ended up with shots that were too close, also the soundproofing on the wall was peeling off on all but 1 side of the wall so we tried to not get that in the shot because we didn't want the video looking cheap and nasty. Next time we will make sure that we check out our location for the filming in advance so that changes can made if appropriate. I think the input of the audience is  very important because if this was real they would be the ones who would be buying my products so hearing what they have to say means that you can meet their demands which is what you are aiming to do.
