Evaluation Question 2

Question 2: How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement)?

MY FRONT AN BACK COVER

MY INSIDE PANELS

MY ADVERT

As you can see my CD cover is completely different to my advert. I liked the idea of being 'in a perfect world' which came form the title of my album. I then tried to think of things which would be featured in 'perfect world'. Then i decided to stick to my initial ideas of using earth tones. I chose them because they are mellow and relaxing and i feel that they reflect the type of music that my artist would make if she were real. This lead me to continue the orange theme onto my advert even though my advert was in black and white. Although my video is not connected to my ancillary products, my 2 ancillary products themselves have the same recurring theme of the same font for the artists name and album name. Also i tried to keep some sort of colour link between them by using the same orange that is on the back album and is also featured on the inside on the poster. If we had to continue and make a video advert I would have used the same font and also featured the orange in there as well and this theme would have gone on for all the singles, posters and albums that Marie would have made.

Rihanna links her video for her single- only girl in the world to the CD cover, both feature her in a field which has a kind of red tint. I feel that this is very successful and is quite nice to look at.

The cover for the single with Rihanna on the grass featured in her video

The album cover has the same red tint as the video and  and the single cover

The video for Nicki Minaj's song- Your love invoves her being a samurai and this has no connection for the cover of her single of her album cover. I feel that her way of promoting is more similar to the type of advertising which i did

Your love cover

Pink Friday album cover

I feel that my audience will recognise my video and my ancillary products as linked products by looking at the artist herself. The ancillary products themselves have more of a connection because they use the same font for the artists name and the album name. Also there is the recurring theme of the use of orange.    My advert also features an actual picture of the CD so that potential consumers know what they are looking for if they want to buy the album.  I feel that my target audiences would be attracted to my ancillary texts because the type of people who buy my artists music would buy it for the music itself and not just because they want to look at her.

  1. Hi Dionne
A bit of a problem with this response. The fact that your artist is in both the video and ancillary products is what creates the link! There doesn't need to be a more detailed link because we've asked you to make a video for only one song off the ablum - it would be quite strange for there to be more links to the video on the ablum. So please start this again, taking out your opening sentence.
Think about layout and design on the digipak and how you linked this with the layout and design of the advertisement. You chose a close-up shot of the artist to create a visual link to the video etc,
