Evaluation question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement).
There were no links which were made between the video and my ancillary texts. The ancillary texts and the video i feel had no connection despite the fact of them both containing a flower, just of different type. In the video there was a pattern kept of my artist wearing the grey jumper, the only time her clothes changed was when my artist threw a rose for her friend. I personally feel no conventions are broken however all kept and used in numerous ways. There is only a clear link between the advertisement and my didgipak, but not between my digipak, advertisment and my video. Besides my artists picture and recognising her face i do not feel the design would notify them of it being the same artist between the video and digipak.

I think that my ancillary texts are successful and my audience maybe attracted to them, as they are very bold and bright. They both link very well together. I feel my targeted audience would be attracted to them however i feel the bold colours would also attract other audience types.

As you can see from the screen shot from the video there is no red in the video however the occurance of black. The top which the artist wear. I did not realise however it is linked to the advertisement , which has the same colour linked to the digipak. (black).

Evaluation Question 1

Question 1: In which ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The first thing we did as a group was come up with a song. We decided on Pixie Lotts' cover version of Kings Of Leon's- Use Somebody. We listened to the lyrics of the song and this helped us to come up with a concept for our video. We also looked at Pixie Lott's video of the song. The video is just of her in the studio while she actually sings the song, the video is shot in black and white. It is also filmed on hand held camera. There are lots of closes up to emphasise the emotion on her face as she sings and this goes well the the song. There are also a lot of slow moving panning shots which also portray the emotion and allow you to not be distracted by what is going in the video and concentrate on the song itself. This video was a very big influence on our video because we felt that it was so typical of the genre of the song. After some discussion we decided that just watching Marilyn in the studio for 3 minutes would be boring so we decided to add some narrative to it. We first decided to have our video go from Marilyn in the studio to her in her everyday life and 2 of her friends in a 3 way split screen. We got this idea from Destiny's Child's Emotion video. After some discussion we found out that this would be a bit difficult so we went back to keeping it simple and we thought we would show the relationship between the artist and her best friend who would die in the video.

I decided to not choose the same photo for my CD and my advert because i felt that consumers would want something different but included a photo of the actual CD in the advert so that they would be able to recognise it.
We decided to stick to the conventions of our genre because we felt that it wouldn't make sense to have  our artist all dressed up in flashy clothes and and flashy location because it doesn't relate to the song. We did however choose not to show the typical relationship between a male and a female because it was all too typical and we wanted to do something a little bit different and show the relationship between 2 best friends.

The picture is of Adele's new album called 21. Her genre of music relates to the music that we used in our groups video. The album cover is very simple which put the focus of the artist and the music. Also her video for her song chasing pavements is very typical of the pop genre which she represents and a ballad, its very simplistic and mellow and doesn't involve any flashy dance sequences or her dressed head to toe in designer clothes.

Cheryl Cole is the complete opposite of Adele and my artist as who follow the typical conventions of pop music by portraying her as a 'sex symbol'. Her album cover and her video emphasise this. Her album cover focuses of her wearing a nice dress and designer Louboutins she is also wearing lots of make up as opposed to Adele who's make up is more naturalistic. Also her video for fight for this love involve her being in the spotlight in almost every shot. Even when she isn't alone in the shot she is made to stand out

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TWO FRIENDS

PALOMA FAITH STICKS TO TRADITION AND FOCUSES ON A RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A MAN AND WOMAN

My video doesn't challenge the conventions as it is quite typical of a ballad, you would usually expect to see studio shots and also a narrative. The video which i created focuses on typical conventions such as lip synching, repetition of shots especially close ups which are usually seen in pop music especially with ballads.

Evaluation: Question 4

Question 4:
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Clip one:

Clip 2 and 3:

Clip one:
The first clip is from the audience feed back when the students went to the cinema to view all the A2 media music videos. It was good to get this feedback because it was viewed by students who have never seen it before and they managed to get the message that we was trying to put across in the video. This student said he particularly enjoyed the ending with the rose as he thought it was very effective.

Clip 2 & 3
Both clips are feed back from a teacher and student which i recorded after they watched my groups video in class. They had a lot of good and bad views of our video.
Many said they liked the use of close ups as it builds a relationship between the audience and artist.  Others said the lighting was quite poor in some of the studio shots . Also one boy commented and said one of the fades we used was too long.
This is a written feed back from a student. The main comment i want to point out is that they said the lighting and shots in the studio was good and it strongly shows off the performer. Also another comment i want to make is that one student focused on the narrative of the video and how is flowed and matched the conventions.

This is a student from my media class her comments on my digipak is that " it works well and that it connects to the video as there is many close ups and by having a close up on her digipak make the artist easily recognised" but also the student said that the colours i used would attract a older audience rather than a young teenage audience"

The same student also commented on my advertisement. She said that " the text is very clear and can be easily read and by adding the front of the digipak cover to the advert promotes the album and can be easily recognised in the shop. But on criticism is that the colour scheme of the advert does not match the digipak, where the advertisement is more pop princess aimed at a teen audience while the digipak is aim at a modern older audience"

My comments:
My opinion on these comments is that they are very understandable and i get there point fully. I've looked back on both of my media products and if i could go back i would change the lighting in the studio scene to make it much brighter so you can see the artist clearly as well as adding a variety of shots. Also i would change the colour scheme of my digipak and advertisement to make them matching.
I have learned lots from while making these products such as how to use the soft ware in more detail and also we was put in completely different groups which was scary at first because we didn't know each other but we worked as a team a pulled though in making the dead lines of the tasks we were given. When starting to make the music video we had a different idea to our end product, originally we planned to have flashing pictures of couples then changed it to a friendship of three friends to our final idea of the artist reflecting on her memories of her and her close friend who died. Also with the digipak i kept the idea of having a rose in it but i also wanted a picture of the artist looking vulnerable but on the front of my digipak she looks strong. But overall i believe the changes we made worked out for the best because it wasn't a typical story line.

Evaluation: Question 2

Question 2:
How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisements)?
My digipak consisted of a close up of the artists face, with a floral patten and of course the artists name 'Marie' and the album name 'In a Perfect World'. The colours i used were black, white and cream which works well with the video because we used both colour and black and white throughout the track. I believe the colours used is both feminine and will attract a teen audience as well as a more sophisticated audience . On the back cover there is another close up of the artists face and a list of songs. Inside the digipak i have taken the rose from the video and incorporated it in my digipak to connect them. The close up in the video is very important as it connects the audience to the artist and we have used a close up through out the chorus as it is out main shot.
This shot is off my digipak and as you can see its a close up.

Both roses used here connect with each other as one of the images has been taken from the video itself and the other has been used for the inside of the digipak so it shows that they are connected.

The front cover of my digipak i have used on my advertisement so it is easily recognised, and also i have included information that  it is a new album and that she will be on tour. I got my idea from the Cheryl Cole advert for her new album 'Messy Little Raindrops' as it is very simple and will attract a lot of people because if your advert contains a lot of writing not many people will have time to read it while walking past.

Overall the audience should be able to link the video to the advertisement and digipak because of the rose and also in the video there are loads of close ups of the artist in the studio and both digipak and advertisement also have a close up of the artists face to.I believe that both my main product and ancillary texts are successful because the video shows a good story line of the relationship between two friends and the loss of one of them and the memories they share. Also the with the digipak i wanted to portray some sort of innocence by using a close up which would connect it to the video and the recurring close up in the video and ancillary texts really is pushing for some sort of connection with the audience.
The audience are very important as you have to please them if you want them to buy your album. I have tried to focus both video, digipak and advertisement to aim it at young teenage girls and anyone who has lost a friend. And where the song was taken from Kings of Leon it may attract there audience also. Maybe not so much the colours used would attract a male audience but they could buy it for a girl friend or sister.

Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
when creating my media product i was influenced by many artists for example

Trey songs -One Love . The way in which this video started helped influence me and my groups ideas when we were deciding how we were going to make our video. The fact the fact that his story started with a title and a cover as if it was a book. Which helped capture its audiences attention. We thought this would be very affective as we also had a story in which we had to tell.

We found out that trying to frame the photo or making the front cover a book would in fact be too hard .Therefore we just got a shot of our artist and used it as our opening shot. This shows her writing the lyrics to the song, as she creates as the video continues.

We thought that this would be a good idea due to the fact we had changed the narrative of our video and based it on friendship. So we were going to have picture frames of stills which we included in our video to tell our story. We really did want to have a book as a effect in story telling but sadly couldn't so we stuck to our codes and conventions . Kept the video very simple and did not leave the boundaries which leave our codes and conventions of a video for example, the way we filmed in a studio and didn't film out on the street to make it look like a grime video.

Instead we decided to make our memories black and white to show we were looking back on the past on emphasis of what happened. we thought this would be a lot easier. However i thought maybe if we had used a frame it would have been better. An gave a more pictorial effect . Throughout the video we still stuck to the conventions of our genre. These conventions also occurred in the acoustic version of pixie Lott. Which we chose as our song. We decided to do it in a studio however only have close ups and shots of our artists singing. Instead of having drums and over instruments in the shot to make it look like a rock video. The clothing was kept simply just like pixie lott was dressed in hers and ther wasnt nothing to other the top to make it look all over the top and glamarous.

I don't actually think my advert is conventional because it is not a picture of me in the studio. however for future reference i think i would use a photo like that if i did it again. However the fact that the photo is plain and there isn't really much to it . I feel that it does fit as it is really plain and there isn't really much to it ,but there artist its self and i feel that says it all.
I decided to keep the colour theme running between my digipak and my advertisement. Red and black as you can see. There was a flower which i also used, as in the video there was a rose . Sadly i could not find a natural rose to replica this. Therefore i found my own and colour red it according to the theme which i found. It did not look natural however kept my theme going. I put a plain one in the back cover and inside to keep my theme consistent.
I did not really decorate my CD but made it red and just put the artists name and album name on it. I stuck to the necessity of keeping my album plain.

Evaluation: Question 1

Question One:
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

What influenced me while filming my music video was the Artist we used Pixie Lott and her video to the song "Use Somebody' as well as Destiny Child's Video 'Emotion' and Trey Songz song "One Love'.

We used two ideas out of the three videos, in the Pixie Lott video we used the black and white colour scheme which reflected the memories the two friends once shared and by also using a studio it closely connected both videos. In the 'Emotions' video we got the idea of the friendship instead of using the story line most used of relationship between lovers. Going back to the Pixie Lott video of 'Use Somebody' there are many close ups which we also used to show the artist more and to let the audience know that she is apart of what is happening in the video. Also close ups are important because it creates a relationship between the artist and audience and the close up is the main shot as it is used in chorus throughout the video.

Editing, using the camera and trying to get my vision and make it into a well produced music video was a lot of hard work as we had to consider lighting, matching up the track to the video and the over all look and  effects. The part i enjoyed most was the camera work because i got to get really involved and while shooting we came up with different ideas to make the video better and most of the filming was randomly shot to catch everyone in the natural surroundings enjoying themselves. But there were obstacles we had to face because the studio we used had limited space which made it hard to position the camera and tripod. Also we filmed on two different days and in one she has ear phones and the lighting was dark whereas on the other time the lighting was good and the artist wasn't wearing ear phones.

I believe that the video me and my group done keep to the conventions if the genre. Our genre is pop and in many pop videos there is a lot of narrative which can also be seen in other genres such a R&B and some Indie/Rock videos. Other reasons to why i believe we kept to the conventions is the locations we chose as they were very contemporary. Reasons to why i didn't want to challenge the conventions is because i wanted to keep the video simple as the song is self explanatory and doesn't have much going on. In many pop videos they mainly focus on the artist to create a relationship between the audience and artist.

My digipak and advertisement both fits in with my genre because of the colours chosen and the text on the advert is soft and feminine which suits and female pop star and there younger audience, and on the other hand suits a more sophisticated audience. I did decide to challenge the conventions when it came to my digipak because of the colours i used. The colour black isn't usually used in a pop digipak cover unless its for the writing and by me using the picture of the rose i used in the video which was done to connect the video to the digipak looks a bit Gothic which could make people think the genre might be indie pop. And the colour cream suits a more older audience which may show the artist as versatile. Where as my advertisement suit a younger audience because the use of the baby pink background.

I have incorporated a close up of the artists face in all three media products , so they are easily recognised as well as the artist.

Here black text is used, but the over all cover looks feminine and suits the pop genre.

The use of the colour pink shows innocence and give the whole pop princess feel to it like my advertisement.
